If this device were obsolete, the web site would say so. If it were about to be obsoleted, the web site would say "not recommended for new designs". Apparently, it's just that the Supply & Demand Fairy does not like this chip. I see no strong reason not to use this chip. But if you want to lower the risk of it being obsoleted ten years down the road, choose a more popular one.
